Conditions of entry

1. The stories may be on any subject connected with France/the French and no more than 1500 words in length. 

2. Entrants can be of any nationality and from any country providing that they are between 16 and 25 on 31/03/10 and currently resident in the United Kingdom. 

3. Stories must be in English and must be the original unpublished work of the competitor. 

4. Entrants may submit one story only. 

5. Stories must be typed double-spaced on A4 paper and on one side only. The application form should list title, author and approximate length. The competitor`s name must not appear on the entry. The title of the story must appear on each page of the entry. Each page must be numbered. 

6. Entries must be submitted in duplicate. One copy to be sent by email to shortstory@francobritishcouncil.org.uk accompanied by the application form and one copy to be sent by post accompanied by the SIGNED application form.  

7. Entries will be acknowledged by email once the hardcopy version has been received. Entries cannot be returned. Entries cannot be altered after submission. 

8. The Franco-British Council and Prospect accept no responsibility for lost or damaged entries. 

9. The judges’ decision is final. No correspondence or discussion concerning the judges’ decision will be entered into. 

10. Copyright will remain with the winning authors. Acceptance of the prize money will indicate the author`s agreement to their story being published in an anthology by the Franco-British Council. There shall be no further fee for such publication. Franco-British Council will represent the author in the sale of any subsidiary rights to the story arising from the publication of the anthology and will pay the author their share within 60 days of receipt. 

11. The Franco-British Council and Prospect reserve the right to edit the winning stories. 

12. Prospect reserves the right to publish the winning stories in their magazine or on their website. 

13. Failure to meet the conditions of entry will mean that a submission is automatically disqualified from the competition. 

14. Members/employees of the Franco-British Council, their children, and employees of Prospect magazine and children are not eligible to enter.  

15. All entries must be signed off by a professional person such as a teacher, tutor, doctor, lawyer etc. as a guarantee that the story is the sole work of the entrant.

16. In the event where, in the opinion of the FBC, use of Eurostar tickets is not feasible a cash equivalent would be awarded.
